Our chefs cook the way the family wants the food to taste. They work in your kitchen or alongside your caterer, they know what glatt-level preparation means in practice, and they leave the kitchen the way they found it. Most families use them for the cooking and the dishes, and use our waiters for the table.

What the role covers on site

The chef covers the cooking and the kitchen: the shopping and the prep, the cooking itself, the plating, the service of the food and the dishes afterwards. When a family has a caterer, the chef works in that caterer's kitchen and supports their service line rather than replacing it.

Our chefs cook to the family's own recipes where that is what the event calls for. On a glatt-level event they work with separated milchig and fleishig equipment from the start, and the practice is built into the setup rather than imposed at the end.

  • Shopping, prep and cooking to the family's menu or their caterer's menu
  • Glatt-level kitchen practice with separated equipment
  • Plating and service of the food, and the dishes afterwards
  • Working alongside the family's own caterer when there is one

Day-of duties

  1. Shop for and prepare the ingredients the menu requires
  2. Cook the menu, at the standard the family has agreed
  3. Plate and hand off the food to the service crew
  4. Keep the kitchen kosher and organised throughout
  5. Handle the dishes and leave the kitchen clean
  6. Coordinate with the family's caterer when one is involved

How we hire and screen

Every chef we place is Shomer Shabbos and works under the supervision of the Kashrus Council of Lakewood. We check the practical experience that matters in a family kitchen: cooking at volume, working to somebody else's instructions, and staying calm when the family is watching and the guests are arriving.

We also ask what the chef cooks regularly. A household that has never hosted a bar mitzvah is a different placement from a caterer doing three a week, and we match the two properly.

How to book

Tell us the date, the venue, the number of guests and the menu. If you have a caterer, send us their details and we will coordinate with them before the day.

Chefs are usually booked for the preparation window as well as the service, since most of the cooking happens hours before the guests arrive. Four to six weeks is our normal booking window and eight weeks for peak dates.

FAQ

Do your chefs cook to our own recipes?

Yes. For a family celebration, cooking your own recipes to your own taste is often the point. We brief the chef on the menu and the number of guests beforehand and build the prep sequence around it.

Are your chefs glatt kosher?

Our kitchen practice is glatt-level as standard: separated milchig and fleishig equipment, controlled sourcing and supervision under the Kashrus Council of Lakewood. Where a venue requires a mashgiach on site, we arrange one.

Can a chef work with our caterer?

Yes. The chef supports your caterer's service line in the kitchen, and we coordinate the timing with them directly so the food leaves the kitchen when the room is ready for it.
